Mindful Crochet Blankets: A Warm Hug for Your Soul

Mindful Crochet Blankets: A Warm Hug for Your Soul

"Crocheting is a wonderful way to relax, unwind, and destress. It's like a mini vacation for the mind." - Vickie Howell

Crocheting blankets is an age-old pastime that has been passed down from generation to generation. While it may sometimes seem like a simple activity, crocheting blankets can be a highly mindful activity that offers a wealth of mental health benefits.

The Benefits of Mindful Crochet Blankets:

Crocheting is a highly meditative activity that offers several benefits for mental health. The rhythmic and repetitive motion of crocheting induces a state of relaxation, allowing you to release your worries and enter a more tranquil state of mind. The calming and soothing effect of crochet helps to reduce anxiety and stress and can have a positive impact on your overall well-being.

Mindfulness is an essential aspect of crocheting blankets, and it involves focusing on the present moment and being aware of your thoughts and feelings. Mindful crochet can help you develop a more positive relationship with yourself and increase self-awareness.

The Mindful Crochet Blanket Project:

Choosing the right pattern, colours, and textures for your mindful blankets can be a fun and therapeutic experience in itself. There are countless options, and you can customise your blanket to reflect your style and taste. Before starting your project, consider what you hope to achieve with it and what colours and textures speak to you.

Yarn & Stitches

Is this blanket for a gift or do you have a particular room where you would like it to be used? This may help you to decide which colours of yarn you might like to choose.

granny blanket

In this Granny Square blanket, I decided to use up all of my scrap yarn. I used a simple white yarn with the other colours to marry them all together. I finished off with a white border.

If you'd like to make your own granny square blanket, here's the links to my videos on YouTube

If you’re not one for changing colours and weaving in ends (that would be me!) then why not choose a variegated yarn?

moss stitch

This is the blanket I made for my croffice using a variegated yarn from Hobbycraft (UK). It is a mix of pink, white and grey with a silver thread runny through. Because the yarn is so beautiful, I chose to keep the stitch very simple and went for my go-to Moss stitch (sometimes known as linen stitch)

If you prefer a more textured look, why not try the alpine stitch seen here in this blanket?

Again I used a variegated yarn (this one is a cake yarn from Aldi UK). Using a variegated yarn means that you don’t need to worry about changing colours and can really get lost in the crochet stitches.

Crochet techniques such as pom poms and tassels can also be used to add decorative elements to your blanket. So grab your crochet hook and start your mindful crochet blanket today!
